Samantha Baines joins Ceretone in celebrating life with hearing loss

For Samantha Baines, hearing loss is not something to be hidden away. As an actress, broadcaster, author and disability advocate, she has spent years using her own experiences to challenge misconceptions about deafness and encourage others to embrace their hearing journey.
Samantha is deaf and has worn hearing aids for many years. She is also a lipreader and is learning British Sign Language, and has spoken openly about the realities – and the positives – of living with hearing loss.
It is this openness that has made Samantha a natural fit for a collaboration with Ceretone, as we look at how hearing aids can become an everyday part of life rather than something people feel self-conscious about.
A platform for good
Samantha has built an impressive career across television, radio and theatre. Her acting credits include The Crown, Call the Midwife, Silent Witness and Avoidance, while she has also appeared as a presenter and contributor on programmes including The One Show and BBC Morning Live.
Away from the screen, Samantha is a passionate advocate for deaf and disabled people. She is an ambassador for the Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID) and patron of Stagetext, which provides captioning and access services for deaf, deafened and hard-of-hearing people.
She has written extensively about her own experiences. Her book, Living With Hearing Loss and Deafness: A Guide to Owning It and Loving It, takes an honest and often humorous look at what it means to live with hearing loss. Samantha’s children’s book series The Deaf Detectives features deaf main characters and is available to pre order now via Amazon.
Rather than presenting deafness as something that defines what a person cannot do, Samantha's approach is about finding ways to navigate the world on your own terms – and being open about the things that can make life easier.
A new mindset
Hearing aids are one of those things. For many people, deciding to wear hearing aids can be a significant step. There can be concerns about how they look, what other people might think or whether wearing them somehow means accepting that they are getting older. Samantha's work helps challenge those perceptions and shows that hearing loss can be talked about openly and without embarrassment.
At Ceretone, we believe that people should be able to find hearing support that works for their lifestyle, without unnecessary stigma or fuss. Our collaboration with Samantha is another opportunity to encourage people to think differently about hearing aids and the role they can play in everyday life.
